Oh hi!

Glad you’re here. My name is Mika Maloney and a small batch is a place for me to share notes on creativity, connection, and care. Some poetry, some tarot, some prompts to inspire your own creative practice.

I’m a writer, an artist, and a maker. The art I make and the writing I do is the playful making that grounds me. Supporting others in their own creative practices invigorates me. By which I mean: it fucking lights me up.

In addition to my work as the executive director at OffCenter Community Arts Project in ABQ (a free art space and a community that inspires me daily — and is a hell of a lot of fun. If you’re in ABQ, come by and say hi!) - I write and make art. I focus primarily on fiber art but also play around with painting, collage, and mixed media. I also lead poetry writing workshops at OffCenter Community Arts Project.

My creative practice is built on attention. Weaving across my creative work as a writer, visual artist, teacher, and community maker, is a devotion to tender attention to all and a belief in attention as ‘the beginning of devotion’ (with thanks to Mary Oliver). Writing this newsletter is a commitment to my own practice of attention and creativity. My hope is that reading it feeds your creative practices as well.

Never miss an update—every new post is sent directly to your email inbox. (I think? Depending on your settings?) Participate in the comments section, or support this work with a subscription.

For now, there won’t be much difference between paid and free subscriptions, except paid subscribers will get access to monthly audio recordings with creative writing prompts. (I hosted a poetry radio show for one year and loved getting to talk about poetry with you all and share prompts for you to write along with! Expect monthly mini-versions of that!)
